A thin Crescent Moon lies below Mercury low in the west-southwest just after sunset. Low position and Sun's glare interferes with observation.

Oct. 17 The Moon lies in the teapot asterism of Sagittarius the Archer.
Oct. 18-19 The evening Moon transits south of Aquila the Eagle.
10/19 First Quarter Moon 1:33am PDT; 08:33 UT.
Oct. 20-22 The waxing Gibbous Moon transits a transformational triangle formed by Neptune, Uranus and Fomalhaut, to the south.
10/20 the Moon conjoins
Neptune 9:09pm PDT; 04:09 UT 10/21 and occults (hides) the planet in the sky near Antarctica.
10/21 Orionid Meteors peak. Look southeast 1:00am and high in the south around 4:00am.
